Policosanol is a unique, natural product derived from sugar cane wax. Studied over the past decade, research shows policosanol is able to significantly lower cholesterol, prevent clot formation, and inhibit atherosclerosis lesions.

Human trials have shown policosanol’s ability to lower cholesterol an average of 13 to 17% overall; reducing LDL, or bad cholesterol, by 18 to 25% while increasing HDL, or good cholesterol, by 15 to 28%. Few products will reduce bad cholesterol while raising good HDL levels. Policosanol also exerts a mild lowering effect (5%) on triglycerides.

An interesting outcome in clinical studies was that individuals on policosanol had no serious arterial embolism or clots when compared to placebo and statin drug groups. Policosanol shows significant protective effects against atherosclerosis plaque formation. A two year study of patients with intermittent claudication or painful and weak lower limbs showed significant improvement over the course of two years on 20 mg daily.
