Irritable bowel syndrome causes abdominal discomfort, cramping, excess gas, and heartburn with fluctuating constipation and diarrhea. IBS is a very common intestinal tract dysfunction but must be differentially diagnosed from more serious syndromes of ulcerative colitis, colon cancer, or Crohn’s disease.
Enteric coated peppermint oil found in Mentharil offers a natural alternative to over-the-counter drugs for indigestion. Significant scientific research has been done on peppermint oil and clown’s mustard (Iberogast). The German Commission E has approved peppermint oil for IBS because it has been shown to relax intestinal muscles and the esophageal sphincter.
The enteric coated peppermint oil in Mentharil delivers the oil directly to the intestines. The Rosemary oil in this formula improves gastric tone, while the Thyme oil reduces gas.
Identifying irritative factors of food allergy or intolerance is vital, while limiting overeating and saturated fats in dietary habits also have beneficial effects. Additional fiber in the diet is sometimes helpful. Controlling stress is necessary, as stress brings on the symptoms of the condition.
Mentharil sometimes may cause a transient burning in the rectum; if this occurs reduce the dosage.
Suggested use: 2 capsules 3 times daily between meals
